Its savannah, mountain forest, sand rivers, bush land and rock-strewn hills support more than 77 mammal species and over 500 species of bird, including zebra, bushbuck, cheetah, cape buffalo, lion, defassa waterbuck, elephant, warthog, giraffe, reedbuck, eland, duiker, bush pig, wild dog and striped hyena. Access in and out is by air, which keeps the driving down on a park this far from Kampala.

Day 1
Flight to Kidepo Valley and a Guided Nature Walk
After breakfast the guide collects travellers and drives them to Entebbe Airport or Kajjansi Airstrip, depending on which the flight to Kidepo leaves from. Refreshments follow on arrival at the park, and the afternoon is given over to a guided nature walk led by a park ranger. The walk opens up the savannah plains and the mountains that ring them. The group then drives to its chosen lodge for dinner and the night.

Day 2
Game Drive and Karamojong Cultural Visit
An early breakfast is followed by a game drive across the park, where large herds of buffalo and elephant are common, along with waterbuck and ground birds such as ostrich. Lunch is taken at the lodge. At around 4pm the group travels to a Karamojong village to learn about local customs and watch performances. The return to the lodge is in the evening.

Day 3
Sunrise Drive to the Seasonal River and Flight to Entebbe
Setting out after breakfast, travellers watch the sun come up before continuing with the guide towards the seasonal river. This stretch is good for birds, among them shoebill, yellow warbler, hamerkop and fish eagle. The group then transfers back to the lodge for lunch before driving to the airstrip for the return flight to Entebbe.
