Day-by-day itinerary

What the operator has planned, day by day, across 5 days.

1. Day 1

   Kampala Or Entebbe To Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

   The guide picks you up early in Entebbe or Kampala and starts the long run south-west to Bwindi, which is your base for gorilla tracking. The drive takes eight to ten hours, broken by a stop at the equator monument and lunch at Igongo cultural centre. From there the road carries on through the rolling hills of Kigezi to the lodge, where you arrive for dinner and overnight.

2. Day 2

   Gorilla Tracking And A Village Walk

   After breakfast you go to the visitor centre, where guides brief you on the rules and what to expect once you are in the forest. The guided trek then heads into the jungle, and when the family is located you spend one hour with them before returning to the lodge for lunch. Later in the evening there is the option of visiting nearby villages to see traditional ways of living, including farming and the craft making of the BaTwa and Bakiga, after which you return for dinner and overnight at the lodge.

3. Day 3

   Transfer To Kibale Forest National Park

   After breakfast you set off north from Bwindi to Kibale Forest, home to chimpanzees and twelve other primate species. The drive takes six to seven hours and runs across the plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park and through Fort Portal. Dinner and overnight are at the lodge.

4. Day 4

   Chimpanzee Tracking Or Habituation

   Breakfast is followed by the drive to the Kanyanchu visitor centre for the briefing, after which guides take you into the forest on a guided trek to find the chimpanzees. Ordinary tracking gives you one hour with them, while the habituation option runs the full day. In the evening you may drive out to the crater lakes, of which there are around 52 in the region.

5. Day 5

   Return Transfer To Kampala

   After breakfast you take the road back to Kampala. The route runs by way of Mubende town, where you stop at the Nakayima tree, held to be 500 years old and once used as a shrine by the last king of the Bachwezi Empire.
