Day-by-day itinerary

What the operator has planned, day by day, across 6 days.

1. Day 1

   Kampala To Kibale Forest National Park

   After an early breakfast your guide meets you in Kampala and sets off west for Kibale Forest by way of Fort Portal, with lunch taken on the road. The drive gives long views over the western hills before you reach the park. On arrival there is time to go out to the crater lakes nearby and see the terraced tea estates around them. Dinner and overnight follow.

2. Day 2

   Chimpanzee Trekking At Kibale, Then On To Queen Elizabeth National Park

   You leave early with the driver guide for the park offices and the trekking briefing, and walking into the rainforest with ranger guides begins at around 8:00am. Chimpanzees are watched going about the ordinary business of feeding, climbing and playing, and grey cheeked mangabeys, L'Hoest's monkeys and a range of birds turn up along the same trails. Back at the lodge you have lunch and check out for the three-hour drive south to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

3. Day 3

   Game Drive And Launch Cruise In Queen Elizabeth

   A cup of coffee before dawn sets up the morning game drive along the Kasenyi track, where elephants, antelopes, solitary buffaloes, lions, warthogs and birds are about at first light. The drive runs two to three hours, after which you return to the lodge for breakfast and lunch. The afternoon is given to the launch cruise on the Kazinga Channel, with elephants and buffaloes along the banks and crocodiles, hippos, waterbucks and birds on and around the water. Back at the lodge there is time to freshen up before dinner and overnight.

4. Day 4

   Queen Elizabeth To Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

   Breakfast is followed by the drive south to Bwindi, routed through the Ishasha sector for a look at the tree-climbing lions and whatever else is out on the plains. The road offers good scenery for most of the way and lunch is taken en route. You reach the park and your lodge in the afternoon, with dinner and overnight there.

5. Day 5

   Gorilla Trekking In Bwindi And A Batwa Community Visit

   Breakfast is very early and packed lunch goes with you to the park offices, where the 7:30am briefing covers the rules for being around gorillas before ranger guides lead the group into the misty forest. Tracking can run up to eight hours, or a full day, depending on where the family has settled, and once found you are allowed one hour watching them. Carry plenty of water, a hat, sunglasses, a rain coat and a camera with the flash switched off. Lunch is back at the lodge, and the evening is spent visiting the Batwa community.

6. Day 6

   Departure To Kampala

   Breakfast is followed by the road back to Kampala, with lunch in Mbarara and a photo stop at the equator where souvenirs can be bought. The drive continues north and you reach Kampala in the evening.
