Day-by-day itinerary

What the operator has planned, day by day, across 3 days.

1. Day 1

   Kampala to the Semliki Reserve

   After breakfast the guide collects you from your Kampala hotel and drives west towards the Toro-Semliki Wildlife Reserve, a road day of roughly six to seven hours that runs down the eastern side of Lake Albert. The reserve sits on the floor of the western arm of the Rift Valley. The evening is given to the night game drive the reserve is known for, when hyena, leopard, serval, mongoose and nightjars are the animals most often picked up in the lights. Dinner and the night are at the lodge.

2. Day 2

   Chimpanzee Tracking and Birding

   Breakfast is early because the tracking starts in the cool of the morning, which is when the chimpanzees are moving rather than resting out of sight. A ranger leads the walk into the forest, and you stay with the chimpanzees for as long as they remain in view. Birding runs alongside the tracking, since the same forest and the grassland at its edge hold a wide range of species. The group returns to the lodge to rest, eat and spend a second night.

3. Day 3

   Morning Game Drive and Return

   The final morning is a game drive across the reserve, covering in daylight the open country seen under spotlight on the first evening. The group comes back to the lodge afterwards for a late breakfast. The drive east to Kampala takes up the rest of the day and reaches the city in the late afternoon, where the trip ends.
